Description: CHEM-HIST is an international electronic forum and news bulletin set up to carry information and discussion related to the history of chemistry and chemical industry. The list is open to anyone with an interest in any facet of the history of chemistry. CHEM-HIST aims to provide:

- Announcements of conferences and other forthcoming events;
- Announcements of new projects and ventures in relevant fields;
- Early discussion of work done within the history of chemistry;
- Information about seminars, exhibitions, museums;
- Announcements of jobs, grants, scholarships, prizes;
- Inquiries of whatever you feel appropriate asking the community;
- Article title listings from journals or forthcoming books.

CHEM-HIST started in 1997 as an outcome of the European Science Foundation research programme on "The Emergence of Chemistry in Europe, 1789-1939" and has been managed by Christoph Meinel in Regensburg ever since. In August 2024 CHEM-HIST was migrated to the current server.

CHEM-HIST is nominally supported by the Fachgruppe Geschichte der Chemie der Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker, the Commission on the History of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, the Royal Society of Chemistry Historical Group, the EuChemS Working Party on History of Chemistry, the Sidney M. Edelstein Center for the History and Philosophy of Science, Technology and Medicine in Jerusalem, and the Science History Institute in Philadelphia.

The number of subscribers exceeds 400 worldwide. Standard language is English, but other languages are welcome if appropriate. The list must not be used for commercial purposes. Only messages from subscribers are accepted. To send a message to the entire list use: chem-hist@listserv.dfn.de .
